Acupuncture involves the insertion and manipulation of very small needles into the skin and other underlying tissues to promote positive physiologic changes throughout the body.  Acupuncture is most often considered a complement to other treatments that patients receive for their medical or surgical condition, but it is occasionally utilized as the only treatment.
