Judy Corbett

My father, O.R. Corbett DVM, had requests for a groomer at his clinic in Vinton, IA.in the early 1970s& we thought it was something I could do. I initially learned grooming by working for a groomer as an apprentice. However, my REAL training came when I became involved in showing dogs!
I passed all of the testing sponsored by the Professional Pet Groomers Association in the mid 1980s & became one of the first 50 “Certified Master Groomers” in the country.
I’ve groomed at numerous veterinary clinics in Minnesota & Iowa. For much of my professional life I had my own shop in Des Moines, IA.
I have owned & shown many breeds including Irish setters, English cocker spaniels, whippets, Pomeranians, dachshunds (wire & long haired varieties) miniature & standard schnauzers, afghan hounds, bulldogs, and other breeds. I am currently licensed by the AKC to judge English cockers, Irish setters, golden retrievers & cocker spaniels (“American”) & Junior Showmanship. I’ve judged all over the US. My late husband Pete Bauer was also involved in the canine world as a breeder & AKC judge.
As a breeder of English cocker spaniels I have produced more than 70 champions. As a handler I finished at least 200 other dogs for clients. I bred, owned & showed the top winning English cocker spaniel bitch in the breed’s history. “Witch” aka ChJaybriar’s Heretic NA ECM, won 7 all breed Bests in Show, 2 National English Cocker Spaniel Club of America specialty shows, Best of Breed at Westminster Kennel Club & the first 2 AKC Eukanuba shows. Witch’s other wins were MANY! She was also a top producing bitch having 26 champion offspring. She appears in literally thousands of pedigrees of today’s English cockers.
I also bred, owned, trained and showed an all breed obedience trial High in Trial winner. I’ve competed in agility trials & field tests.
